At its August 13, 2026 meeting, the Board of Directors selected Portfolio 3A as the preferred Integrated Implementation Strategy (IIS) portfolio of Projects and Management Actions (PMAs). This presentation (download here) compares the three final portfolio selections, including the details of Portfolio 3A.
According to this SVBGSA memo from August 20 (download here), selection of a preferred portfolio does identify a long-term implementation pathway. However, this choice does not lock the Agency into any fixed projects or funding. Each project and management action will continue to require separate planning, environmental review, permitting, financing, and future Board approvals before implementation, according to the memo.
Also shared at the August 20 meeting were two presentations about ocean desalination strategies. The first presentation (download here) described a variety of seawater intrusion and salinity management ideas throughout California. OceanWell Water, a Menlo Park-based engineering firm, provided information (download here) about their deep sea water farm strategy for coastal desalination needs.
